The Business Group- 10 Minutes

As a Business Success Coach for The Business Group, I work long term with small to medium sized business owners, like yourselves, to improve the profit growth and value of your business.

I offer you a free no obligation diagnostic examination of your business to identify those areas where it is not performing well. Once we agree a proposal, I then work with you to improve and grow your business.

The Small to medium Business landscape in NZ

MBIE data states that SMBs, businesses with fewer than 20 employees, make up 97% of all enterprises in New Zealand and contribute $65 billion to our GDP.

However, most SMBs fail within 5 years

While there is an evidenced correlation between size (number of employees) and longevity of business, there is no evidenced correlation between the age of a business and achieving its potential.

So where does your business fit?

If you could happily sell your business today what $$ value would you place on it?

Valuing a business is a specialist skill. As an approximate guide only, try this exercise. Multiply last year’s profit by a ratio between 1.7 – 3.0 (varies according to industry). Add back in depreciation, interest, shareholder payments and any discretionary spend, ie. sponsorship. This is your business’s approximate market value.

If the market value is well below the price you would sell, then we need to talk.

To recap, as a Business Success Coach, I work long term with small to medium sized business owners, like yourselves, to improve the profit growth and value of your business.

I offer you a free one hour diagnostic examination of your business to identify those areas where it is not performing well and those that are not.

Personal Background

I currently own two businesses, an education and business development consultancy (23 years) and a property development company (14 years), and have recently sold a very successful large childcare in Marton, employing 18 staff.

I have held senior positions in the private and public sectors, my last employed position being CE of the Apparel and Textile Industry Training Organisation, in Christchurch, until September 2012. By then we had opened our childcare and we moved up to Feilding to nurture and grow our investment.

I have led a large Trade faculty in a Polytechnic in Tauranga where I introduced options for workplace-based apprenticeships to complement the on-campus programmes.

I’m married to Ruth and we have 4 adult children. We’ve spent most of our married life in the Bay of Plenty, then Christchurch and now the Manawatu.
